How A Healthy Balanced Diet Can Improve Our Psychological Health?
One of the most obvious, yet under-recognized factors in the development of major trends in mental health is the role of nutrition. The body of evidence linking diet and mental health is growing at a rapid pace. Food plays an important role in managing & preventing long term & short term mental health problems like Alzheimer's disease, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity, etc.
You probably know that the food you eat affects your body. Many studies have shown the connection between your food choices and your overall health. Eating a nutritious diet helps you keep a healthy body weight and a healthy heart. It also helps reduce your risk of developing some chronic diseases. New research finds that your food choices may also affect your mood and mental health. This is sometimes called the "food-mood connection."
Daily mental health problems can be prevented by eating fresh fruit or juice every day, 2/3rd of people having fresh food does not report daily mental health problems. People who feel some kind of mental health issues consume very less healthy foods such as freshly prepared meals from raw ingredients, fresh vegetables & fruits and have more unhealthy foods such as processed food, fast food, chocolate, etc.
Eating regular, healthy meals can keep blood sugar levels steady which can reduce the dips in mood associated with depression and anxiety. If we are able to limit the sugar intake levels then natural sugar present in food spikes our energy levels. The symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder can be reduced by healthy eating, because low sugar diets and diets comprised of healthy vegetables and fruits can help improve concentration and reduce hyperactivity. Quantity of alcohol consumption also has direct link with our mental health so we should have a limit on this. Depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder can all be triggered or worsened by alcohol intake.
Life is all about balance & same goes with our mood so it's our responsibility to ensure a balanced mood and feelings of well being by choosing a diet which provides vitamins, minerals, amino acids, water and carbohydrates. While a healthy diet can help recovery, it should sit alongside other treatments recommended by your doctor.
